“I donate to the Southeast Health Foundation because lives are changed, compassion extended advancements in care is tangible. In our sister units, Family Birth, NICU, and Pediatrics – We have received education tools, the pediatrics playroom was furnished, the bereavement endeavors – calls, keepsakes, workspace and cuddle cots were all provided by Southeast Health Foundation funding.”

“My why? My late granddad.  When he passed, the Palliative Care program was very new. We found out about the program once he did not qualify for long-term care. Through, we knew then that he was not going to make it out of the hospital. This care program allowed our family the space, comfort, and support we needed during my granddad’s final days. This care program allowed for proper treatment and care for him, including assistance with tough decisions. I am grateful for the availability of this program. Over the years, it has grown to offer more to patients and their families.”

As a former member of the Rehab Services team, I was able to see firsthand how funds from the Foundation can impact the level of care provided to our patients and the community. From the grants that fund lymphedema garments to equipment in the NeuroBalance gym to the Pediatric treatment space makeover, our patients receive better care and our staff members are set up for success due to the funding received from the Foundation.

Clinical laboratories are facing a critical and growing shortage of qualified laboratory personnel. This shortage hampers the ability of clinical laboratories to meet patient testing demands. Being able to purchase state of the art testing equipment that requires minimum human intervention will help to meet the demands of the shortage. Contributing to laboratory medicine made it possible for the Foundation to provide funding for the laboratory to purchase a new Hematek 3000 Slide Stainer. As the shortage of laboratory continue to increase, so will my commitment to give.

“As a SE Health employee and a member of the SE Health Foundation Employee Council, we share a responsibility to our community (its people & resources) through protecting its health & well-being now and for generations to come. Our community & our health system are only as successful as the people in them, and we know that we can do great things when we work and dream together. The future of our community depends on us to lead people and organizations across the region through giving so that these groundbreaking initiatives can be put into action.

I give to this general purpose so that funds can be allocated as needed to areas that may not have the necessary amount of money budgeted for needed equipment or supplies, or to help someone in need.

“I am passionate about the Michael Miller Memorial Scholarship because it is geared towards the youth, which was one of Michael Miller’s main loves. Michael coached and mentored many of the youth here in the Wiregrass for over 23 years. This scholarship is a continuation of the work that Michael loved to do and that is to see youth become great future leaders. I am so proud of the Southeast Health Foundation for thinking this much of my husband Michael Miller and for helping to keep his legacy alive by fostering great youth into awesome adults.

“I give to the Employee Benevolence Fund because I have seen the look on people’s faces when receiving help during a difficult time. We all need help at some point. I enjoy seeing this employee-funded account help our own. Southeast Health’s employees are the very best, just good people who choose to give bi-weekly out of their paycheck to help others.”

“I have spent the last 20 year of my career either working directly in surgery or supporting them as an EPIC analyst. Surgery took care of me when I was going through cancer treatment and supported and developed me when I graduated nursing school. I have worked with some very talented and dedicated people who change lives by healing very sick patients. My passion is giving to surgery because I believe they make a difference every day.

I’ve seen firsthand as a therapist what the Foundation has accomplished to help this community. I joined the team in 2015 and every great piece of equipment or cool project in the building seemed to have been funded by the Foundation. Seeing members of my community touched and served in ways that wouldn’t be possible without the Foundation’s help has motivated me to continue being a partner.

My why is Critical Care. Critical Care fascinated me even when I was in nursing school doing my clinicals. The knowledge those nurses had, the intensity that they practiced their profession, every detail meant something and needed an action and they knew what to do to help that patient….. That was what piqued my interest. I wanted that knowledge. I wanted to know how and why. I wanted to understand and be able to jump in and provide the care patients needed. I wanted to help to make those patients better, to be able to return home to their families and their lives. Then I started practicing as a Critical Care Nurse and I learned it was so much more than numbers and letters and replacing fluids and electrolytes, it was PEOPLE. It was mothers and fathers, sisters and brothers, sometimes it was people who had no one else but is. It is the human touch.
I love critical care. I love the staff I work with even though I have been here much longer than most, I still learn from them every day. I love seeing new nurses’ eyes light up as they get to do something for the first time. I love to see the light come on when they learn something new. I am thankful to have been able to spend the last 30 years working in Critical Care and I still find it fascinating.

Babies born prematurely or babies who need a little extra love & care deserve somewhere safe and secure to grow and get better. Having a NICU program close to home is an amazing gift for our community.  Families can stay close to home and not have to be separated because their babies can receive the level of care they need locally, right here at Southeast Health. I love knowing my contribution is helping our tiniest patients who need us the most. The Foundation has helped to ensure the NICU has the very best equipment and technology through funding from not only employee giving but also through donations from the community. ‘Sometimes the smallest things take up the most room in your heart.’ – Winnie the Pooh
